Trump mocks Greta Thunberg after Gaza Flotilla interception
US President Donald Trump reignited his feud with climate activist Greta Thunberg on June 9, offering the 22-year-old activist to “take anger management classes” after Israeli forces intercepted a humanitarian aid boat she was aboard en route to Gaza.
“She’s a strange person. She’s a young, angry person,” Trump told reporters when asked for his message to Thunberg, Caiber.Az reports via foreign media.
“She’s certainly different. I think she has to go to an anger management class. That’s my primary recommendation for her,” he added.
Thunberg and 11 other activists were detained by Israeli authorities in international waters while sailing on the Madleen, a vessel operated by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition. The group was attempting to deliver aid to Gaza, which is facing a worsening humanitarian crisis amid the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel.
Israeli officials confirmed the interception of the boat and said the passengers would be returned to their home countries.
“The ‘selfie yacht’ of the ‘celebrities’ is safely making its way to the shores of Israel,” the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote in a post on social platform X.
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) accused the Israeli military of attacking and unlawfully boarding the Madleen, which was carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza. The vessel departed on June 1 from the Port of San Giovanni Li Cuti in Sicily, Italy, as part of an effort to deliver relief to the besieged enclave. Gaza, home to 2.1 million people, has faced more than 600 days of conflict and is currently under an 11-week Israeli blockade that has intensified a growing hunger crisis.
Trump and Thunberg have a history of public clashes. Thunberg gained international recognition as a teenager for her climate activism, often criticising global leaders for inaction on environmental issues—drawing repeated mockery from Trump throughout his presidency.
