Trump: US expects deal with Cuba, not crisis
US President Donald Trump stated that he expects to reach a “deal” with Cuba rather than provoke a crisis in the country.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One while travelling from Washington to West Palm Beach, home to his Mar-a-Lago estate, Trump stressed that there is no need to push the situation toward a humanitarian crisis, Caliber.Az reports.
“It doesn't have to be a humanitarian crisis. I think they [Cuba] probably would come to us and want to make a deal. So, Cuba would be free again,” he said.
Trump added that there are many people in the United States who would like to return to Cuba, noting that this issue needs to be addressed.
He described the situation on the island as “very bad,” saying the country lacks both money and oil.
The president also noted that Cuba had previously received significant financial and energy assistance from Venezuela, but those supplies have now stopped.
