Trump withdraws space entrepreneur Jared Isaacman’s NASA nomination “I will soon announce a new Nominee”
US President Donald Trump announced his decision to withdraw the nomination of Jared Isaacman to head the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
“After a thorough review of prior associations, I am hereby withdrawing the nomination of Jared Isaacman to head NASA. I will soon announce a new Nominee who will be Mission aligned, and put America First in Space,” Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social, as per Caliber.Az.
Meanwhile, Isaacman said in a post on X: "It may not always be obvious through the discourse and turbulence, but there are many competent, dedicated people who love this country and care deeply about the mission."
Notably, Isaacman, a billionaire entrepreneur and private astronaut, had been nominated in December 2024. He is known for leading the Inspiration4 mission in 2021, the first all-civilian spaceflight, and the Polaris Dawn mission in 2024, during which he became the first private citizen to perform a spacewalk. His nomination had received broad support from the space community.
The withdrawal of Isaacman's nomination has raised questions about the Trump administration's approach to NASA's leadership and its future direction. With no confirmed leader, NASA now faces uncertainty amid proposed 2026 budget cuts that could impact numerous space programs and result in major layoffs.
