Turkish airlines to order 225 new Boeing aircraft
Turkish Airlines announced on September 26 that it plans to order a total of 225 new Boeing aircraft, following diplomatic discussions the day before between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and US President Donald Trump.
The airline confirmed it has finalised negotiations to purchase 75 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, including 50 firm orders and 25 options for the B787-9 and B787-10 models. Deliveries are expected to take place between 2029 and 2034, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
Additionally, Turkish Airlines has completed talks with Boeing for 150 Boeing 737-8 and 737-10 MAX planes, consisting of 100 firm and 50 option orders. However, this order remains subject to final agreement with engine manufacturer CFM International.
In a statement to the Istanbul Stock Exchange, Turkish Airlines said it is also in ongoing negotiations with Rolls-Royce and GE Aerospace for engines, spare parts, and maintenance services for the new fleet.
The announcement follows a September 25 meeting between presidents Erdogan and Trump, during which Trump indicated that sanctions on Ankara could be lifted, paving the way for Türkiye to purchase American F-35 fighter jets.
Turkish Airlines emphasised that these acquisitions are part of a broader strategy to modernize its entire fleet with new-generation aircraft by 2035, aiming to boost operational efficiency and sustain an average annual growth rate of around 6%.
