Turkish authorities detain eight in anti-terror financing operation

12 June 2026 12:31

Turkish authorities have detained eight suspects in Istanbul as part of an investigation into the alleged financing of the terrorist organization ISIS, following a comprehensive analysis conducted by the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK).

MASAK prepared an extensive report aimed at identifying and disrupting financial channels linked to the terrorist group, TRT Haber reports.

The investigation found that the suspects allegedly concealed money transfers by presenting them as humanitarian assistance. Financial records examined by investigators showed that transactions frequently carried descriptions such as “aid,” “for a sister in need,” “rent assistance,” and “needs.”

MASAK's findings indicated that most of the suspects were not registered members of any non-governmental organization, despite claims that the funds were intended for charitable purposes. Investigators also determined that the volume of financial activity conducted through the accounts was inconsistent with the stated objectives of the transfers.

Among the report's notable findings was the discovery of extensive financial transactions involving numerous individuals who had previously been convicted or were under active criminal investigation.

Following the financial probe, security forces carried out simultaneous raids at multiple addresses linked to the suspects. Eight individuals were detained and taken into custody as part of the operation.

Searches conducted at the suspects' residences resulted in the seizure of one unregistered firearm, two signal (blank-firing) pistols, a large number of sharp-edged weapons, and various digital materials. Authorities believe the seized evidence could provide further insight into the activities and operations of the alleged network.
