Turkish FM to hold talks in Moscow focused on Ukraine mediation

16 June 2026 11:46

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has begun a working visit to Moscow, where he is scheduled to hold a series of high-level meetings focused on bilateral relations, regional security, and economic cooperation, according to a source within Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry cited by TASS.

During the first day of the visit, Fidan is expected to meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov for official talks.

“He also plans to meet with Russian Presidential Aide Vladimir Medinsky, Presidential Advisor Igor Levitin, and representatives of the Turkish business community,” the source said.

The discussions are expected to cover a broad range of issues, including bilateral ties between Moscow and Ankara, international security developments, and economic cooperation.

Fidan is also expected to reaffirm Türkiye’s willingness to host potential future negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. The agenda is also said to include proposals related to maritime security in the Black Sea region.

The visit, taking place on June 16–17, comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts by Ankara to position itself as a mediator in the Russia–Ukraine conflict, as well as to strengthen its economic and political engagement with Moscow.
