Turkish FM to visit Egypt for high-level talks on bilateral ties

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will visit Egypt on August 13–14, where he is expected to meet with senior Egyptian officials, including President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The visit will also include the second meeting of the Türkiye-Egypt Joint Planning Group, co-chaired by Fidan and his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.

The talks are expected to cover bilateral relations in the political, economic, trade and military spheres. The sides will also focus on strengthening contacts between relevant government agencies, organisations and business communities, in line with their shared goal of increasing bilateral trade to $15 billion.

Sources in the Turkish Foreign Ministry said Fidan will also address issues related to the Strait of Hormuz, the Gaza Strip, Syria, Libya and the Eastern Mediterranean.

Fidan is expected to express support for efforts to restore the ceasefire between the United States and Iran and facilitate the swift reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, as well as Egypt’s initiatives aimed at ending conflicts in the region.

The implementation of Trump’s peace plan for Gaza and Israel’s actions in Lebanon and Syria will also be discussed separately.
