Turkish FM: We trust our Azerbaijani brothers
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said that recent agreements involving Azerbaijan, Armenia and the United States have created a positive outlook for the South Caucasus.
Speaking to TGRT Haber, Fidan noted that Baku had consulted Ankara about the Washington meeting and subsequent agreements.
The minister stressed that Türkiye’s stance on the Zangezur Corridor was based on mutual trust, underlining close cooperation with Azerbaijan on the matter.
“At present, there is nothing concrete regarding the Zangezur Corridor. The parties will discuss what happens next and how the situation will develop. Our position is based on trust. We trust our Azerbaijani brothers,” he said.
Fidan also praised Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s position on the issue.
On 8 August 2025, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a Joint Declaration in Washington during a summit hosted by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The seven-point framework, witnessed by Trump, underscores sovereignty, territorial integrity and the renunciation of force. Foreign ministers from both countries also initialled a draft “Agreement on Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations.”
