Turkish Foreign Ministry denies allegations of pressuring Hamas on ceasefire

28 April 2025 14:15

The Turkish Foreign Ministry has strongly refuted claims that it pressured Hamas to make concessions regarding ceasefire negotiations.

The allegations, which appeared in an Israeli newspaper, suggested that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan had forced the radical Palestinian group to make concessions during his meeting with Hamas representatives in Doha on April 27, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.

Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Öncü Keçeli addressed the accusations, stating, “The claims that our minister [Hakan Fidan] forced Hamas to make concessions on the ceasefire during a meeting in Doha are not true.”

Earlier reports, citing sources within the Turkish Foreign Ministry, indicated that Fidan had met with Hamas representatives to discuss the ongoing ceasefire talks with Israel. The Hamas delegates reportedly reaffirmed their stance for a permanent ceasefire and provided an update on their negotiations. In response, Fidan reiterated that Türkiye continues its efforts both on the international stage and through bilateral discussions to work towards peace in Gaza.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry has consistently emphasized its commitment to facilitating dialogue and seeking a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
