Turkish intelligence neutralises PKK/YPG terrorist ringleader in northern Syria
Türkiye's National Intelligence Organisation (MİT) has neutralised a YPG/PKK ringleader, Haydar Demirel, in the Tall Khamis region of northern Syria.
Anadolu Agency reports that according to security sources in Ankara, Demirel, nicknamed "Bager Türk", led the activities of the criminal organisation in the al-Hol province.
The terrorist was struck as he was training a new group of YPG/PKK fighters.
Turkish special services had been tracking Bager Türk since 2020 when he "supervised" PKK activities in the Syrian province of Hasek.
Between 1997 and 2000, he was involved in terrorist activities in the Amanos mountain range in the southern Turkish province of Hatay.
During the same years, he organised attacks on the gendarmerie in Hassa and Dortiol districts.
In 2010, he participated in two terrorist attacks in the Semdinli district of Hakkari province, Türkiye.
On March 8-9 2010, he was involved in the bombing of Turkish Armed Forces bases in Şemdinli, Dereçik, and Olcaytepe, causing the death of two Turkish soldiers and three wounded.
He was also responsible for the July 5, 2010 attack on a police station in Şemdinli district, Hakkari province, Türkiye.
He joined the PKK in 1993. Trained by Abdullah Öcalan, the ringleader of the PKK, from 1993 to 1994. He was involved in organising terrorist attacks.
In 2000, he "supervised" terrorist activities in the Qandil region of northern Iraq, in 2013 in the Zap region of Iraq, and in 2014, he moved to Syria.
