Turkish justice minister: Attacks on lawyers threaten rule of law
Akın Gürlek, Turkish Minister of Justice, commented on the killing of a lawyer in Bursa, saying that those responsible will be held accountable and attacks against lawyers undermine the rule of law.
In a post on NSosyal, he expressed deep sorrow over the death of lawyer Hatice Kocaefe, who was killed in a shooting from a vehicle, according to Turkish media.
Gürlek emphasised that lawyers are a key component of the judicial system and play a vital role in ensuring justice.
“Every attack on this honourable profession constitutes a threat to the rule of law. The organisers of this despicable attack will definitely face justice,” the minister said.
He also extended condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to the injured citizen, adding that there would be “zero tolerance for threats against representatives of justice.”
