Turkish official: Azerbaijan faces extensive disinformation campaign
Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Türkiye’s Grand National Assembly Fuat Oktay has said that Azerbaijan is one of the countries that has faced the most extensive disinformation campaigns.
Oktay made these remarks during a roundtable discussion entitled "Role of Parliaments in Public Diplomacy: The Azerbaijani and Turkish Models" held in Baku, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He noted that given the current realities, social media diplomacy is becoming an increasingly important aspect, as people now receive the majority of their information directly from social networks.
"We must combat disinformation. If we fail to control the development of technologies and artificial intelligence, it will lead to insurmountable consequences. Together, we are fighting against the global campaign targeting Azerbaijan," he said.
Oktay reminded that the French Parliament had discussed a resolution claiming that Azerbaijan allegedly occupied Armenian territories during the 44-day second Karabakh war.
On December 7, Azerbaijan’s ADA University hosted a roundtable titled “Role of Parliaments in Public Diplomacy: The Azerbaijani and Turkish Models.”
In his opening speech, First Deputy Speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament Ali Ahmadov described the restoration of Azerbaijan’s independence as a pivotal moment in the nation’s history, which he called a blessing for its people.
He highlighted the importance of this milestone in strengthening the brotherly relationship between Azerbaijan and Türkiye.
Ahmadov also emphasised the continued growth of ties between the two nations, noting that this progress bolsters the influence of both countries on the global stage, allowing them to take more prominent roles in international affairs.
