Turkish parliament speaker welcomes Azerbaijan–Armenia rapprochement steps
Türkiye is open to developing a trilateral interparliamentary dialogue with Azerbaijan and Armenia, as part of broader efforts to support stability in the South Caucasus, according to Numan Kurtulmuş, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye.
Speaking on the role of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering peace, Kurtulmuş said such a format could also include other regional states at both political and parliamentary levels, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He underlined that improving relations between Baku and Yerevan remains a key priority for Ankara.
Kurtulmuş noted that Türkiye has consistently supported cooperation among all countries in the region. He said longstanding tensions, previously centred on the occupation of Azerbaijani territories in the Karabakh region, had been a major obstacle to regional engagement.
Following the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, he said a new balance has emerged in the South Caucasus.
Türkiye views recent steps towards normalisation between Azerbaijan and Armenia as positive developments and expressed hope for the establishment of a durable peace in the region.
