In a post on social media, Oktay expressed optimism about the visit, stating: “The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye has arrived in Moscow for official engagements. I hope the meetings we will hold, aimed at further strengthening our bilateral ties and exchanging views on regional and global developments, will prove to be productive.”
To recall, as of April 2025, Türkiye has intensified its diplomatic efforts to mediate a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has reiterated Türkiye's readiness to host peace talks, emphasizing the country's strategic position and history of facilitating negotiations, such as the 2022 Istanbul talks and the Black Sea grain deal.
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has engaged in discussions with both Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, advocating for a balanced approach to peace that respects Ukraine's territorial integrity while acknowledging Russia's concerns. Fidan has also expressed support for U.S.-led initiatives aimed at ending the conflict, highlighting the importance of inclusive and result-oriented negotiations.
In mid-April, Türkiye hosted a meeting involving Ukraine, the UK, and France to discuss Black Sea security, aiming to establish a "coalition of the willing" to ensure maritime safety and support future security guarantees. President Erdoğan has emphasized that a fair and lasting peace requires equal representation of both parties in negotiations, underscoring Türkiye's commitment to facilitating dialogue.
