Turkish president calls for continued combat against PKK, ISIS to prevent terrorism in Syria
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stressed the importance of preventing Syria from becoming a breeding ground for terrorism, emphasizing that the fight against the PKK and ISIS must continue.
Addressing a press conference following talks with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Ankara, Erdogan highlighted the significance of ongoing efforts to combat these terrorist organizations, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
"In the context of Syria, it is necessary to prevent the country from becoming a hotbed of terrorism. The fight against both ISIS and the PKK, along with its affiliated organizations, was one of the key issues we discussed at our current meeting," Erdogan told a briefing.
On combatting terrorism, Erdogan said Türkiye is the only country that has defeated the terrorist groups PKK and Daesh/ISIS on the ground, adding that Ankara is also the sole NATO ally in this class.
“We will definitely not let these organizations flourish from now on. The fight must continue." President Erdogan added.
