Turkish, Syrian leaders convene for closed-door talks in Istanbul

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with Syria’s interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa on May 24 in Istanbul.

According to Turkish diplomatic sources, cited by local media, the two leaders held a private meeting at the Dolmabahçe Palace, Caliber.Az reports.

They were joined by their respective foreign ministers — Hakan Fidan for Türkiye and Asad Hasan Shaibani for Syria — as well as Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalın, Defence Minister Yaşar Güler, Secretary of Turkish Defence Industries Haluk Görgün, and other officials.

No additional information about the discussions has been released so far.
