Türkiye calls for permanent ceasefire in Gaza to ensure regional peace, stability

27 November 2024 15:57

The Turkish Foreign Ministry has expressed approval of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, expressing hope for its long-term sustainability.

"We welcome the positive outcome of the ceasefire negotiations in Lebanon and hope that the ceasefire will be lasting. The international community must exert pressure on Israel to fully adhere to the ceasefire and compensate Lebanon for the damages it has caused. Türkiye is ready to render any necessary support to help establish peace within Lebanon," the ministry said, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

The ministry stated that "to ensure peace and stability in the region, it is essential to declare a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire in the Gaza Strip as soon as possible and put an end to Israel's aggressive policy."

The ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel came into effect at 04:00 (GMT+2) in accordance with the US-French initiative. The agreement outlines the gradual deployment of Lebanese army units along the southern border, with the support of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

In turn, Israel will gradually withdraw its troops from southern Lebanon over a period of up to 60 days. With the approval of both Israel and Lebanon, a committee will be established to monitor the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, comprising representatives from the US, France, and the UK. The US will also facilitate indirect negotiations between Israel and Lebanon to address ongoing border issues.
