“Suspects were operating within the framework of the terrorist organisation ISIS and were responsible for its funding,” Yerlikaya said.
Officials reported that the raids led to the seizure of a large quantity of unregistered pistols, hunting rifles, organisational documents, and digital materials.
Türkiye has been a key player in combating the Islamic State (ISIS) since a wave of deadly attacks on its soil between 2013 and 2016. Joining the international coalition against ISIS in 2016, Türkiye launched operations like Operation Euphrates Shield to dismantle ISIS strongholds in northern Syria.
Despite ISIS’s territorial defeat in 2017, the group persists through insurgency tactics, recruitment, and financing, with Türkiye remaining a target and transit hub for foreign fighters.
Since 2011, Türkiye has deported over 9,000 foreign terrorist fighters from 102 countries. In 2022, Turkish forces captured key ISIS figures and neutralised 1,220 terrorists, including 19 suspected suicide bombers.
