Türkiye is taking extra measures to ensure the safety and security of its citizens as the country rings in the New Year.
Minister of the Interior Ali Yerlikaya announced today that a record number of law enforcement personnel—309,819 in total—will be deployed nationwide for the occasion. This includes over 200,000 police officers, up to 100,000 gendarmes, and several thousand coast guard personnel, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Yerlikaya emphasized that all necessary precautions have been put in place to maintain peace and order throughout the country. "The enhanced operational mode will continue for three days, lasting until Thursday, January 2. Ensuring the safety and security of our citizens remains our top priority," he said.
As part of the heightened security measures, more than 30,000 traffic police officers will be stationed along state roads, highways, and throughout major urban centers. In total, the country has set up 6,862 police checkpoints, with gendarmes providing additional security at 3,923 of these locations.
