Türkiye-France dialogue focuses on regional stability, humanitarian crisis in Gaza

25 June 2025 21:17

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron to discuss a range of bilateral, regional, and global issues, underscoring the importance of continued cooperation between Türkiye and France.

During the meeting, Erdoğan welcomed the recent ceasefire between Israel and Iran, expressing hope that the current de facto calm would soon evolve into a lasting peace, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.

The Turkish leader highlighted the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, stressing the urgent need for a permanent ceasefire in the region to alleviate suffering.

The leaders also explored avenues to strengthen Türkiye-France relations. Erdoğan voiced confidence that the two countries would persist in efforts to enhance their bilateral partnership, reflecting a shared commitment to collaboration across various sectors.

A key point of Erdoğan’s remarks was the significance of integrating non-European Union allies into Europe’s evolving security and defence framework. He advocated for viewing Türkiye-EU relations through a long-term, strategic lens, emphasizing Türkiye’s pivotal role in regional stability.

Addressing the situation in Syria, Erdoğan noted that the Syrian government seeks to avoid involvement in regional conflicts. He underscored the importance of Israel recognizing that its security is intrinsically linked to the stability of its neighbouring countries, suggesting that regional peace is the foundation for Israel’s own safety.
