Türkiye keen to establish military bases in Syria to enhance security, fight terrorism
Türkiye is preparing to establish a series of military bases in Syria, including ground, maritime, and air facilities, with the aim of improving Syria's defence capabilities, bolstering security, and supporting the country’s ongoing battle against terrorism.
Sources close to Yeni Şafak have revealed that one of the key factors behind Israel’s recent airstrikes in Syria was an attempt to disrupt Turkish military exercises planned for these newly established bases, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
Security sources have indicated that the primary objective of these bases will be to improve the training and coordination of Syrian security forces, as well as to stabilize security along Syria's borders. These bases are expected to serve multiple functions, including military advisory roles, combat training, and support for strategic planning efforts.
The initiative represents a collaborative approach between Türkiye and Syria, focused on strengthening regional security through cooperation and capacity building. The locations for these bases will be determined in conjunction with the Syrian government, based on current security risks and thorough risk assessments.
This strategic move is seen as crucial for Türkiye's border security and is expected to be part of a broader, long-term strategy in the fight against terrorism. The training programs will not only address immediate operational needs but will also focus on building structural capacity and enhancing the effectiveness of Syrian security forces over time.
Training activities at the bases will take place on land, at sea, and in the air, tailored to the region’s specific conditions and military requirements, ensuring the approach remains adaptable to evolving security challenges.
