Türkiye launches operations after 10-ton cocaine seizure in Spain
Türkiye has moved to active law enforcement measures following a major cocaine trafficking operation carried out by Spanish security forces on a vessel intercepted in international waters.
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on social media platform X that Türkiye joined the operation after Spain detained 13 crew members, Caliber.Az reports.
Following these detentions, coordinated operations were conducted simultaneously in İstanbul, Mersin, Tekirdağ, Kocaeli, Sakarya, and Hatay, resulting in the arrest of seven suspects.
The vessel, stopped in the Atlantic Ocean on January 12, was found to be carrying around 10 tons of cocaine hidden among a cargo of salt. The crew detained by Spain included four Turkish citizens, one Serbian national, one Hungarian national, and seven Indian nationals.
