Türkiye presents first domestically produced electric car VIDEO
The celebrations of Türkiye's 99th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic commenced with the presentation of its first home-grown electric car.
During the opening ceremony of the production plant for Türkiye's Automobile Joint Venture Group, or TOGG in the city of Bursa, where the car will be manufactured, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the car “is the pride of our 85 million citizens”, TRT World reported.
The president said his country is witnessing the "fulfillment of a 60-year dream”, adding that he wishes the domestically-made electronic car “will take to roads in many countries around the world as a prestigious Turkish brand in upcoming period".
The factory will be able to produce 175,000 cars per year when working at full capacity and employ 4,300 people directly and 20,000 indirectly.
The automobile producer aims to produce one million vehicles in five different models by 2030, including a SUV, sedan, C-hatchback, B-SUV, and B-MPV.
According to Report citing a TV interview on TRT1, the price is expected to vary between $54-43 000 but further price information was not provided during the official presentation, as is the international norm when new models are presented.
The car was designed by Italy’s Pininfarina design company, which has created models for Ferrari and California-based electric carmaker Karma and is expected to hit the roads in the first quarter of 2023.
