Türkiye reaffirms commitment to diplomatic resolution of Ukraine conflict

Türkiye has reiterated its steadfast support for a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The statement came from a source in Ankara who spoke to Russian media ahead of an upcoming meeting between Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Belgian counterpart Bernard Kenten, Caliber.Az reports.

The source confirmed that the Belgian foreign minister's visit is scheduled for January 2. During the talks, Fidan is expected to stress the importance of constructive cooperation between Türkiye and the European Union, along with the necessity for a fair and sustainable resolution to the conflict in Ukraine through diplomatic means.

The source also highlighted the crucial role of ongoing negotiations in achieving peace.

Additionally, it was emphasized that there is a historic opportunity to secure stability in Syria, which holds significant implications for both the region and Europe.

Earlier, the source indicated that Türkiye has not yet received any requests from the conflicting parties regarding the organization of peace talks in Istanbul.

President Erdogan had previously outlined his vision for a ceasefire in Ukraine to the European Union.

On December 10, 2024, during a conference with ambassadors, President Erdogan reaffirmed that Turkey would continue its balanced and measured approach to the Ukraine conflict.

At the end of November, President Erdogan held discussions with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, during which they addressed the situation in Ukraine and Türkiye's potential role as a mediator.

Erdogan emphasized that Türkiye would persist in its efforts to ease tensions in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and support the resolution process.
