Diplomatic sources revealed ten pivotal topics of interest to Türkiye discussed at the NATO Heads of State and Government summit in Washington.

Türkiye's engagements and priorities at the NATO summit in Washington were detailed and impactful, Caliber.Az reports citing Turkish media.

Türkiye succeeded in updating NATO's strategy on terrorism, marking a significant achievement. The Final Declaration of the summit underscored terrorism as the second most critical threat facing NATO.

The summit reaffirmed the agreement from the Vilnius Summit that NATO Allies should avoid imposing sanctions on each other, emphasizing solidarity and cooperation within the alliance.

There was a heightened recognition of the growing threat in missile defence. NATO reiterated its commitment to ensuring the full defence of all member states, a matter of strategic importance for Türkiye given its geopolitical position.

Türkiye advocated for NATO-EU cooperation based on existing legislation that aligns with Türkiye's historical policy preferences, fostering collaboration while respecting sovereignty.

Türkiye supported joint defence projects within NATO's framework, emphasizing NATO's role as the primary security umbrella and promoting cohesion among member states.

NATO praised Türkiye for increasing its defence spending to 2% of GDP, reflecting Türkiye's commitment to bolstering NATO's defence capabilities. Türkiye reaffirmed its plans to support further development in defence industries.

Türkiye's adherence to the Montreux Convention and its mediation efforts in the Ukraine-Russia conflict were highlighted. NATO recognized Türkiye's diplomatic contributions and pledged support, including non-monetary assistance to Ukraine.

The summit agreed to provide educational support and prepare a comprehensive long-term security assistance package for Ukraine. A NATO-Ukraine Joint Analytical Training and Education Centre will be established to coordinate Allied support efforts.

These discussions underscore Türkiye's strategic priorities within NATO, emphasizing its role in regional security and its commitment to collective defence and stability in Europe and beyond.
