Türkiye’s president welcomes Putin-Trump talks in Alaska

17 August 2025 09:40

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan welcomed the talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump in Alaska, writing about it on his official X account.

“The meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, held in Alaska, has given new momentum to the search for ways to end the war between Russia and Ukraine,” Erdoğan said on X, per Caliber.Az.

According to the Turkish leader, Ankara welcomes the summit in Anchorage and hopes that this new process, with the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, will lay the foundation for a lasting peace.

Erdoğan also stated that Türkiye is “ready to make every possible contribution” to establishing peace in Ukraine.

On August 15, U.S. President Donald Trump met Russian President Vladimir Putin at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, to discuss ending the Russia-Ukraine war, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. The nearly three-hour summit, described as a “feel-out meeting” by Trump, aimed to secure a ceasefire and pave the way for peace negotiations. No immediate agreement was reached, but Trump called the talks “extremely productive,” noting agreement on “many points,” while Putin hinted at an unspecified “agreement” that could lead to peace.
