MoD: Türkiye closely monitoring Global Sumud Flotilla's mission VIDEO
The Turkish Ministry of National Defence has announced that it is closely monitoring humanitarian aid activities being conducted by civilian vessels currently sailing in the Eastern Mediterranean, amid heightened international attention on the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF).
In a statement released on September 29, the ministry emphasised Türkiye’s commitment to upholding international law and humanitarian values as aid missions proceed in the region, Caliber.Az reports.
“Türkiye is closely monitoring the safe conduct of humanitarian aid activities carried out by civilian vessels currently sailing in the Eastern Mediterranean, within the framework of international law and humanitarian values,” the ministry said.
The statement comes after viral social media posts and international news outlets shared footage of Global Sumud Flotilla participants documenting the presence of other vessels sailing in parallel to their own.
“Our ships, which continue their routine work in various training and activities in the region, and our search and rescue capabilities will contribute to humanitarian aid missions in coordination with our relevant institutions and international parties, if needed,” the ministry clarified.
The ministry reaffirmed Türkiye's commitment to ”fulfill its responsibilities everywhere and under all circumstances for the protection of human values and the security of innocent civilians, as it has done until today.”
The Global Sumud Flotilla, an international coalition of civilian activists and humanitarian groups, is sailing with the aim of delivering aid and drawing global attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The flotilla’s progress is being closely tracked by observers worldwide.
