Türkiye supports Azerbaijan’s efforts to highlight injustices against Western Azerbaijanis

12 April 2025 11:02

The issue of Western Azerbaijanis should remain a key concern on the international stage until their return to their homeland, said Shamil Ayrim, head of the Türkiye-Azerbaijan interparliamentary friendship group of the Turkish Grand National Assembly.

Speaking at the 4th Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Ayrim highlighted the importance of bringing attention to the injustices faced by Western Azerbaijanis, asserting that Azerbaijan’s strong position on this matter has elevated it to international prominence, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

“Following the victory in Karabakh, the process of returning displaced persons to their native lands has commenced,” he stated. “Naturally, this has brought the issue of the return of Western Azerbaijanis to their historical homeland into sharper focus.”

Ayrim emphasized that the efforts made by Azerbaijan to ensure the safe return of these individuals deserve global recognition. “These people, too, are victims of Armenian territorial claims against Azerbaijani lands. The steps being taken by Azerbaijan to facilitate their return are commendable,” he added. “In this context, the work of the Western Azerbaijan Community should also be acknowledged.”

Additionally, Ayrim pointed out that Türkiye is actively supporting Azerbaijan’s efforts to raise awareness of this injustice on the global stage. "Türkiye continues to provide its backing in bringing this issue to the international community's attention," he concluded, underscoring the bilateral solidarity between the two nations on this critical matter.
