Türkiye warns Israel on provocative actions in Syria, citing long-term threats
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has issued a stern warning regarding Israel’s policy of provocations in Syria, stressing that this approach poses a significant threat not only to regional stability but to Israel itself.
In an interview with an Iraqi television channel, Fidan said the policy of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, which aims to prevent any country in the region from being a threat, extends to Israel, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
He emphasized that Israel must adopt a more responsible approach in its foreign policy and cautioned that its current strategy, particularly its occupation policies, will ultimately result in greater harm than security benefits.
"Israel needs to act more responsibly in foreign policy matters. The strategy it has chosen, particularly the occupation, will never bring it security and will have negative consequences. While they may not see it now, in 15 years, it could become a major threat," Fidan said. "The provocations they are implementing may address some tactical concerns, but the strategic damage will be much greater. Therefore, this issue must be handled professionally."
Fidan also drew a distinction between two main political factions within Israel. One faction advocates for building relations with regional countries "based on mutual respect," while the other, represented by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, seeks to maintain security through weakening neighboring states. Fidan was critical of the latter, saying this approach has historically provoked issues rather than solving them.
"We have seen this tactic applied many times, and it has never benefited Israel or the region. Instead, it has only caused more problems," Fidan added.
