Turkmenistan eyes to build desalination plants using waters of Caspian Sea
President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has instructed Deputy Prime Minister Annageldy Yazmyradov to study the possibilities of building desalination plants and supplying water from the Caspian Sea to Ashgabat, the Turkmen news agency Orient reports.
Berdimuhamedov also instructed to establish a government commission under the leadership of Yazmyradov and including the ministries of agriculture and environmental protection, the State Committee for Water Resources, the Supreme Control Chamber, scientific institutions, regional administrations, etc.
The President also demanded to check the channels of the Amu Darya, the Karakum Canal and other rivers for their condition and occupancy in order to eliminate factors that interfere with this, clean and concrete canals and watercourses.
Ashgabat is located about 800 km from the Caspian Sea.
