Two earthquakes strike Kamchatka within a minute Strongest measured at 6.3

Two earthquakes struck Russia’s Far Eastern Kamchatka region within a minute of each other, with the stronger tremor reaching a magnitude of 6.3, seismologists said.

According to data from the Kamchatka branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the second quake occurred at 18:52 local time, just one minute after a 5.5-magnitude earthquake was recorded at 18:51, Kamchatka.Aif reports.

The stronger earthquake was centred about 183 kilometres from the regional capital, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at a depth of 15.4 kilometres. The earlier tremor was recorded 168 kilometres from the city.

Authorities said the shaking was felt at an estimated intensity of up to four points in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, as well as in nearby towns including Yelizovo, Vulkanny and Termalny.

Residents reported swaying furniture and hanging lights, with stronger effects felt on higher floors of buildings. No immediate reports of damage or casualties were provided.
