Two Israeli Air Force technicians face espionage charges linked to Iran
Two technicians in the Israeli Air Force are set to be charged with espionage on behalf of Iran.
The investigation alleges that the suspects passed classified documents during Operation “Roaring Lion.” They served at the Tel Nof Air Base near Ashdod and worked with F-15 fighter jets, The Jerusalem Post reports via Israel’s state broadcaster KAN.
According to the case file, the technicians transmitted engine blueprints and photographs showing the face of a flight instructor, in violation of military censorship rules.
Investigators also claim that Iranian handlers instructed them to gather intelligence on former IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.
Authorities are considering upgrading charges against one suspect from espionage to treason.
KAN also reports that eight additional personnel stationed at the base are under suspicion for being aware of the activity but failing to report it. Following the incident, the base commander held a security briefing with personnel and was questioned by Israel’s Shin Bet security service.
