UK journalist: Baku-Yerevan peace treaty should be signed soon
Onnik Krikorian, a UK journalist with a focus on the South Caucasus, has said that the threat of a new political force or figure capable of attracting voters in Armenia by 2026 is becoming more and more real.
If a peace treaty is to be signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan, it should happen soon so that dividends will be visible by the next national elections, Caliber.Az quotes Krikorian as saying on his page on social network X (formerly Twitter).
"Incidentally, all the above remains the case even if Pashinyan’s candidate, Tigran Avinyan, becomes mayor after the legal redistribution of votes as per the electoral code and/or a deal struck with another party to form a majority in the city council.
Ruben Vardanyan-supported Mane Tandilyan’s Aprelu Yerkir, incidentally, which has as its logo an outline of Armenia, the former Nagorno Karabakh Autonomous Oblast (NKAO), and the previously occupied seven regions of Azerbaijan, failed to pass the threshold for representation," Krikorian wrote.
Again, pretty much, and this will affect the way things go from now on and especially with the 2026 parliamentary elections on the horizon. It also showed, however, that this indifference and/or sense of hopelessness also extends to Karabakh policy. As expected. #Armenia #Yerevan https://t.co/C0bbI42eBy
