Ukraine reports over 700 Russian missiles fired in winter strikes
The Ukrainian Armed Forces report that Russian forces launched more than 700 missiles of various types against Ukraine over the course of the winter.
In total, Moscow conducted 14 large-scale combined airstrikes during this period, RBC-Ukraine reports.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, seven massive strikes occurred in December and January, employing a mix of missiles and drones of different types. In February, the intensity of attacks doubled, with Ukraine enduring another seven large-scale assaults. Russian forces reportedly combined missile and drone launches to complicate air defence operations, overload Ukraine’s systems, and deplete resources.
December 2025
On December 6, Ukraine’s Armed Forces Day, Russian forces carried out one of the largest attacks of the full-scale war, targeting 704 aerial objects, including 51 missiles. Subsequent attacks on December 13, 23, and 27 also involved extremely heavy loads, ranging from nearly 500 to over 670 aerial targets per assault.
January 2026
Ballistic missiles were used intensively throughout January. On January 9, the primary strike was concentrated on Kyiv Oblast, targeting 278 objects. Medium-range ballistic missiles were also deployed against Lviv Oblast, and Zircon missiles were reportedly used on January 20 and 24.
February 2026
February marked a peak in attack intensity. On February 3, Russian forces launched the highest number of missiles in a single strike that winter—71 units. On February 26, a massive drone attack involved 420 UAVs in one assault.
The Air Force noted that Russia continues to increase its use of both standard ballistic missiles, such as the Iskander-M, and missiles following ballistic trajectories, including Kinzhal, Zircon, Kh-22/32, and S-300/S-400 systems.
Over the three-month period, Russia launched more than 700 missiles of various types, underscoring a sustained and intensive aerial campaign against Ukraine.
