Ukraine's opposition leader accuses Zelenskyy of blocking his candidacy in future elections
Ukraine's former President Petro Poroshenko has accused current leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy of being personally involved in blocking his participation in future elections.
This was announced by Poroshenko's lawyer, Ilya Novikov, Caliber.Az reports citing Ukrainian media.
"There is a specific clause stating that Poroshenko is prohibited from exercising any legal powers. To run for president, a candidate must open a special campaign account, and Zelenskyy has personally banned him from doing so," Novikov said in a comment to the Espresso TV channel.
He added that the sanctions have resulted in Poroshenko, who leads the "European Solidarity" opposition party, being "blocked from participating in elections" and the confiscation of his "Roshen" confectionery factory, which is a major exporter in the region.
According to Ukrainian media, Poroshenko previously stated that he is unable to even buy coffee at a gas station due to the restrictions imposed on him by the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) and personally approved by President Zelenskyy.
