Ukrainian delegation discusses security guarantees, economic support in Davos

21 January 2026 13:13

A Ukrainian delegation is in Davos engaging with international partners on security guarantees and the country’s economic recovery.

Rustem Umerov, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security Council, shared updates on the delegation’s work via his Telegram channel.

“Together with Kyrylo Budanov and David Arakhamia, we are working in Davos. This morning, David Arakhamia and I held a meeting with national security advisers from France, Germany and the United Kingdom. We synchronised our approaches to security guarantees and further diplomatic efforts,” Umerov wrote.

He added that further meetings are planned with international partners to discuss security guarantees, economic development, and Ukraine’s reconstruction.

Earlier, Russian and Ukrainian officials held separate meetings with U.S. and European counterparts on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos as diplomacy over the Ukraine war continued along parallel tracks.

Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev met for over two hours with U.S. representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, describing the talks as "constructive" and claiming "more and more people are realising the correctness of the Russian position." Witkoff also called the discussions "very positive." The meetings are part of a discreet channel emphasising U.S. security guarantees for Kyiv and increased European burden-sharing, while deferring decisions on occupied territories.

Simultaneously, Ukrainian officials met European partners. Rustem Umerov, Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council, said he, intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov, and lawmaker David Arakhamia met national security advisers from France, Germany, and the UK to coordinate security and diplomatic strategies.

Umerov noted follow-up meetings would cover security, economic development, and reconstruction. Budanov expressed "cautious optimism," stressing that "peace will not come tomorrow" and progress depends on Russia's stance.
