Ukrainian delegation holds investor and political talks at Davos
Ukraine’s delegation has been holding a series of high-level meetings in Davos, seeking to maintain international focus on the country’s economic recovery and longer-term reconstruction.
The update was provided by Rustem Umerov, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council, who said the talks were aimed at engaging global political and business leaders despite the ongoing war.
According to Umerov, members of the delegation met representatives of BlackRock, one of the largest US investment firms, which is already involved in planning for Ukraine’s post-war economic recovery. He said these discussions formed part of broader efforts to mobilise private capital and international support.
On the sidelines of the World Economic Forum, Ukrainian officials also held talks with the prime ministers of Norway and Qatar, as well as with US partners, including Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff. Umerov said the discussions focused on Ukraine’s economic development, post-war reconstruction and security guarantees.
The delegation also briefed international partners on the latest Russian attacks, which have hit civilian infrastructure. Umerov highlighted the situation in Kyiv, where recent strikes left millions of residents without electricity and heating.
He stressed that, despite continuing military threats, Ukraine remains actively engaged with its international partners and is working to lay the foundations for the country’s future recovery and prosperity.
It was reported on 20 January that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would not attend the Davos forum. He said he needed to remain in Ukraine to coordinate the protection and restoration of the country’s energy infrastructure following a series of Russian strikes.
