Ukrainian FM silent on negotiations – parliament demands answers

22 April 2025 13:23

The Ukrainian parliament has been awaiting a report from Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha on the progress of peace talks for over a month, but he has yet to provide any details, according to a statement from Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Goncharenko.

The member of parliament expressed frustration in a Telegram post, stating, “We have been waiting for Sybiha in the Verkhovna Rada for a month, but he has not provided any details on the negotiations,” Caliber.Az reports.

Goncharenko further noted that US President Donald Trump has promised to reveal more information on the efforts to resolve the situation in the coming days.

To recall, as of April 22, 2025, the Russia-Ukraine conflict remains intense, with recent developments highlighting both military engagements and diplomatic efforts.

During a 30-hour unilateral ceasefire declared by Russia over Easter, both sides accused each other of numerous violations. Russian attacks resulted in casualties in Ukraine's Kherson region, while Kyiv reported over 2,900 ceasefire violations by Russian forces. Following the ceasefire's expiration, Putin emphasized that a full ceasefire depends on halting Western arms support to Ukraine—a condition Ukraine has rejected.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reaffirmed Ukraine’s commitment to halting attacks on civilian targets and expressed readiness for discussions to achieve this goal. He emphasized that Ukraine is open to any form of conversation that can lead to an agreement on protecting civilians . Additionally, Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine will send a delegation to London for peace talks with Western countries, aiming to resolve the ongoing war with Russia.

The Kremlin expressed approval of the U.S. administration's position under President Donald Trump that Ukraine's NATO membership is excluded, aligning with Moscow's long-standing stance. Meanwhile, reports indicate Putin might be willing to negotiate with Trump, albeit without territorial concessions.
