Ukrainian MP rules out presidential vote, referendum in May
Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Goncharenko has stated that neither presidential elections nor a referendum will take place in May.
He shared the remarks on his Telegram channel, stating that the parliament currently has no bills or preparations underway for any votes, Caliber.Az reports.
“First, a peace agreement needs to be reached, and only then can elections be considered. The reason why Zelenskyy wanted these elections so badly is clear. During wartime, he could extend his term for another five years. I’ll disappoint Mr. Zelenskyy. Even if elections were held under rockets, bombs, and with electricity completely cut off. Even if conducted through Diia. Even if they allowed people who went into a coma in 2021—and are only now waking up—to vote, YOU WILL NEVER BE REELECTED,” Goncharenko emphasised.
He also noted that the Ukrainian president faces discontent from a wide range of people, including colleagues, childhood friends, residents of Kryvyi Rih, military personnel, and members of his office. “You, Mr. Zelenskyy, are hated. And they [people] dream of only one thing: that you NEVER hold any office again,” the lawmaker added.
