UN envoy: Europe needs to stop buying Russian oil if it wants our help
The Trump administration strongly feels that Europe has to stop buying Russian oil and gas if they are going to continue requesting America's help in fighting the war in Ukraine.
This point was made by the US ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz in his latest interview to Fox & Friends in which he reiterated an argument made by the US president many times previously, Caliber.Az reports.
Waltz echoed President Donald Trump's position, which he repeated in his speech during the UN General Assembly in New York on September 23.
Speaking to the Fox anchor on the situation in Ukraine, Waltz pointed to Trump's statement by reiterating that "Europe can't be buying Russian oil and gas while they are demanding help to fight this war at the same time. This has to stop."
Earlier in September, Trump had already revealed that he would be willing to join the EU in ratcheting up sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin, yet naming a substantial pre-condition for this move: NATO countries first have to cut all oil imports from Russia, as well as impose tariffs of between 50 percent and 100 percent on Chinese imports.
Waltz is a retired Army National Guard colonel and former Green Beret and has previously served as a House Republican from Florida before joining Trump's cabinet as his national security advisor. He was released from his position earlier this year following the "Signalgate" scandal over a private chat conversation containing sensitive government information regarding an ongoing military operation. He has been confirmed as the White House's UN ambassador just a few days before the kick-off of the General Assembly.
