UN secretary-general candidate Bachelet expected to visit Russia
Former Chilean president and candidate for UN Secretary-General Michelle Bachelet is expected to visit Russia in the coming days, Alexander Alimov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, has announced, adding that preparations for the visit are already underway.
According to him, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov holds meetings with all candidates for the post of UN chief, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Candidates include Michelle Bachelet, Rebeca Grynspan, Rafael Grossi, and former Senegalese President Macky Sall.
“Bachelet is expected to arrive in the coming days. It is being worked out. We hope to receive her,” Alimov said.
Previously, International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi and UN Trade and Development head Rebeca Grynspan have already visited Russia.
The current UN Secretary-General António Guterres is due to complete his term on December 31.
The election of the new head of the organisation is scheduled for June.
