UNICEF: Some 447 children killed in Gaza Strip

UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) Spokesperson James Elder said hundreds of children were killed and wounded as a result of Israeli bombing in the Gaza Strip. He cited data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, according to which 447 children died in the region.

“Hundreds of children have been killed and wounded in Gaza as a result of airstrikes, and this number is growing by the hour. This situation is unacceptable and children must be protected. Many families and children also find themselves without food due to the blockade,” the UNICEF Spokesperson told a Reuters briefing in Geneva.

According to the latest data, during the military conflict between Israel and the Hamas movement, which began after the militants attacked Israeli territories on October 7, 1,500 Palestinians and 1,300 Israeli residents were killed.

On October 13, the Israel Defense Forces called on Gaza civilians to evacuate to the southern areas. According to the UN, there is 24 hours to evacuate. The talk is about 1.1 million Palestinians.

Israel's military on October 13 called for all civilians of Gaza City, more than 1 million people, to relocate south within 24 hours, as it amassed tanks near the Gaza Strip ahead of an expected ground invasion.

"Now is a time for war," Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said on October 12 as Israeli warplanes continued pounding Gaza in retaliation for the weekend attacks by Hamas militants that killed more than 1,300 Israelis, mostly civilians.
