Urban solutions fail to reflect needs of poor countries, says Pakistani minister
Currently, urban challenges are not being tackled from the standpoint of developing countries, Musadik Malik, Pakistan's Minister for Climate Affairs, said during a session held within the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.
Minister Malik noted that solutions must also take into account the perspective of poor communities, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
"If housing stock is to be increased, capital costs must be very low, because the required funds are extremely large. Sometimes capital exists, but when its cost is factored in, the situation becomes very complicated.
Another problem is financing mechanisms. For middle, upper classes, and wealthy people, certain solutions exist. But for poor people, there is no real solution. If the answer is simply to create a real estate market, governments can easily do that. But for the poor, there is no genuine solution," he stated.
