US destroys Houthi missile system in Yemen
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has written that the US military launched a new strike on Yemen, targeting a missile system belonging to the Houthi rebel group "Ansar Allah".
The missile system posed an immediate threat to the US forces, coalition forces, and commercial vessels in the region, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Following the escalation of the conflict in Gaza, the Houthi group "Ansar Allah" warned that it would launch strikes on Israeli territory and block ships associated with Israel from passing through the Red Sea and the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait until the military operation in the Palestinian enclave ceases. Since mid-November 2023, the Houthis have attacked dozens of civilian vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
In response to these actions, the US authorities announced the formation of an international coalition and the launch of an operation to ensure freedom of navigation and protect ships in the Red Sea.
