US did not share details with UK before attacking Iran — The Guardian
Before the start of the joint operation with Israel, the United States did not provide the United Kingdom with exact operational details or the timing of strikes on Iran.
The decision to limit the circle of informed parties coincided with Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s initial refusal to allow the use of British military bases for the operation, The Guardian reports.
According to the publication, British authorities were aware of the buildup of American forces in the region and understood that an operation was likely; however, they did not have information on the exact timing or details of the attacks.
This complicated the planning of security measures and decision-making regarding the protection of British personnel.
As a result, the decision to evacuate the British embassy in Tehran and diplomatic staff was made without full knowledge of when the operations would begin, highlighting the limited coordination capabilities between allies in the event of sudden escalation, the newspaper notes.
