US lifts sanctions on Belarusian airline Belavia
John Coale, US President Donald Trump’s envoy for Ukraine, announced on September 11 that Washington has lifted sanctions on Belarus’ national carrier, Belavia.
He made the announcement during a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk, Caliber.Az reports per Belarusian media.
Coale said the decision had been made at the direction of President Trump and approved by all relevant US authorities.
He explained that the president had instructed that the sanctions on Belavia be lifted immediately, and the decision had since been endorsed by the State Department, the Department of Commerce, the Treasury Department, and other involved agencies.
The announcement coincided with the release of dozens of prisoners in Belarus.
