US attack would turn country into graveyard for Americans — Iranian official
Iran would respond decisively to any US military action, a senior Tehran city council official said, warning that an attack would turn the country into a graveyard for Americans and trigger widespread retaliation.
Parviz Sarvari, vice chairman of Tehran’s city council, said references to preparing graves for US troops were meant symbolically rather than literally, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
“If they think they can attack Iran, five thousand graves for American soldiers would not be enough, and we would turn the whole country into a graveyard for Americans,” Sarvari stated.
He added that Iran would target US military bases, naval vessels and any countries backing an attack, noting that Iranian naval forces would respond to threats from the sea, while ground forces would act in the event of a land incursion.
On January 31, reports emerged that a section at Tehran’s Behesht-e Zahra cemetery could hold several thousand graves for possible temporary burials of US military personnel.
