US-Ukrainian delegations' fresh round of talks underway in Riyadh
A new round of talks between Ukrainian and US delegations focused on a potential ceasefire between Kyiv and Moscow is currently underway in Riyadh.
According to a source in the Ukrainian delegation, a positive statement is expected to emerge from the discussions, though the signing of official documents is not planned, Caliber.Az reports citing Ukrainian media.
The meeting follows recent negotiations between US and Russian officials in Saudi Arabia, which took place the day before. These talks centered around a "limited ceasefire proposal in the Black Sea," a step that Washington hopes will serve as a precursor to broader peace talks.
"A new meeting between the Ukrainian and American teams on a truce between Kyiv and Moscow is underway in Riyadh," AFP reports, citing the Ukrainian delegation source.
The discussions in Riyadh come after the day-long US-Russian talks on March 24, which were framed by Washington as a critical step in President Donald Trump's efforts to bring an end to the ongoing three-year conflict. A White House source indicated that "progress had been made" during these discussions, and a "positive statement" is expected "in the near future."
However, a Russian source informed Reuters that the talks in Riyadh concluded late on March 24, with a draft joint statement having been sent to both Moscow and Washington for approval. Both sides are expected to release the statement on March 25.
Despite the ongoing diplomatic efforts, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov clarified that no formal documents would be signed during the discussions, according to Russian media.
