US welcomes Azerbaijani president's pardon decree

The United States welcomed the pardon decree issued by the President of Azerbaijan.

The statement was published on the website of the US Embassy in Azerbaijan, Report informs.

According to the statement, the pardoned individuals included journalists, civil society representatives, members of the political opposition and religious groups.

It should be noted that President Ilham Aliyev signed the decree "On pardoning a number of convicts" on May 27. A total of 167 people convicted to imprisonment and one person was released before the full term has been served. The unserved part of sentence of 36 persons was halved.
