Azerbaijani committee inspects detention conditions of Armenian detainees
The Azerbaijani Committee Against Torture has conducted a monitoring visit to the temporary detention facility and pretrial detention center of the State Security Service (SSS).
Chairman Tural Guseynov and Deputy Chairman Elchin Shirinov led the inspection, which focused on the treatment of detainees, detention conditions, and the provision of food and medical supplies, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
According to Shirinov, the delegation met with detainees, including individuals of Armenian origin accused of war crimes, as well as other inmates. He said none of the detainees raised complaints regarding their treatment or detention conditions.
Shirinov added that all cells are equipped with televisions and radios, and detainees have guaranteed access to legal counsel. They are permitted to make phone calls twice a week and receive visits from family members. The facility also offers recreational amenities such as a gym and a library, and detainees can receive food sent from their families.
He further noted that recent renovations have improved the pretrial detention center, with all cells now fitted with ventilation systems and individual bathrooms. Detainees are also granted daily outdoor walks.
